((I have no idea who is involved besides RW and possibly Stan, so yeah xP I'm assuming that the fire has progressed quite well at this point, and the air is all black and stuff))

There was just something about Gallop Free and fires. Every single year there always had to be some blaze going through, killing off some innocent wildlife, frying some plants, and causing a great amount of hell in the process. However, the horses had never had to really worry about it. They didn't progress through the forest, where grazing was hard, sight was impossible, and the nastier predators ruled. The flames always extinguished themselves before the grasses were in danger, and the herbivores of the fields never had a problem.

Until now, anyway.

A massive drought had come to the land, turning the grasses into metaphorical matches. Then humans had plowed through the land, trambling what good grazing was left as they chased after some unfortunate livestock. Then smoke began to clog the air. It rose in great, black pillows, spreading through the sky and telling of something extremely bad happening. And then the flames came, spreading like wild, engulfing the dry grasses quicker than one could blink. It only brought one thing: complete and utter chaos.

Elamasi wasn't exactly young anymore. She wasn't a panicky animal, and had not completely freaked out when the flames came and the herd had to run for its life. But she hardly was able to magically see through the black air or scent anything over the smell of smoke and flames. And as the herd fled ((and as Breeze does some minor powerplaying)), things seemed just destined to happen. At first the blue roan mare was galloping up near the rear, having been grazing a little away from the herd when the blaze happened. She seemed to be keeping up... Or at least she thought. The mare could barely see through the smoky air...

And soon the herd seemed to be... Gone. The mare, keeping calm, glanced around, slowing down slightly. Where had they gone? She swore she had just seen them a while ago... This didn't make any sense. Ears flickering around, she listened for the herd... And thought she heard them. They seemed awfully far away, but it was all she heard, which made her assume it had to be Dargason's. Well, at least she hadn't gone deaf, yet, the aging mare supposed. Snorting, the mare started off in a gallop again, going where she assumed the herd had continued...

Ameqoi was maintaining a decent amount of calm despite the very dangerous situation. A few years ago he would've panicked and maybe killed a thing or two in the process, but during this situation, he kept up with the herd, looking to see if any herd members went missing, and perfectly ready to encourage those who couldn't keep up. However, he couldn't see much better than Elamasi could in the fire, and the herd was so massive that he was guarenteed to not notice if one or two mares went missing...

((I'm assuming that Elamasi could accidently hear the OTHER herd that's supposed to come along, and that's how she gets lost. And I apologize if I messed any of this up; I just didn't want to drag on the herd fleeing and Elamasi getting lost xP ))

(( Quote:

^ That cracked me up. BTW, Trance and any other people in this herd not played by me and breeze are welcome in this plot.))

<Imageargason was frantic. As soon as the flames errupted over the grasslands, they had gone into a panic, save for a few older, more level headed members. Jingsheng had been the first to flee, logical considering she had a yearling filly to protect. Dargason had, in his haste, torn off after her, calling for the herd to follow. And most did, kept together and in check by Cy and Loki, who as the oldest herd members other than Dargason himself were much more calm about fire than some of the nervous, younger members like Fecia and the two cob mares. Overall, despite the blinding smoke, searing heat, and terror of it all, the herd held together fairly well. The only injury was to Tangaloor, who became disoriented when the winds changed and nearly walked right into the fire. The minor burns on her forelegs and face would heal easily with a little time.
The Great River was another point of potential danger, but thanks to the overwhelming majority of the horses in the herd being from draft lines, the bulky, muscular animals were able to cross with little event. Sjorna needed great encouragement, and moved sandwiched between Dargason and Jingsheng for support. Borbuna, one of the smallest in the herd other than Elamsi, had some trouble keeping her footing against the strong current, but she found an unexpected ally in Yarrabe, who was usually a loner and very reserved towards her herdmates.
Once the group was assembled on the opposite bank, knowing they were in relative safety, Dargason began a head-count, hoping to find all of his mares safe and accounted for. And indeed, at first, it seemed like that was the case, impressive for a herd so large. Then, however, he realized one very important mare, one of his strongly favored mares, was missing. Worried, he snorted and stamped impatiently, nipping at the milling, nervous herd to spread them out so he could better investigate. Still, no matter how many times he chased them about, seeking out Elamsi, she was nowhere to be found.
Then, Bobruna raced to his side, still sopping wet and exhausted from straining against the current. Her eyes were wide and frightened, ears back and head bobbing with agitation>
"Dargason! Amequoi is missing."
<Imageargason's frown of concern only deepened. He knew that Amequoi and Elamsi were old friends who passed much of their time together. If both were missing, they had either never made it across the river, or had become separated from the herd after crossing. Neither was a favorable option; the former ment certain death, for most of the grasslands had been reduced to a smoldering wasteland. The latter meant they were on their own in unfamiliar territory, with human lands clearly nearby by the concentrated scent of livestock in the wind and the direction of the tire-tracks in the bank's mud>

Ameqoi, indeed, found himself straggling behind the herd, much to his dismay. The only encouragement he had was that he could just barely see the forms of horses galloping ahead. Snorting, the black stallion sped up, racing as quickly as he could, ears back and sides heaving. He felt he was way too old to be doing something like this, and he was hardly the oldest horse there. The longer he ran, the more he felt like he was going to get hopelessly lost in the flames.

Then, however, he felt water below his hooves, and he allowed himself to heave a sigh of relief; he had reached the river. That would at least bring him to safety, and hopefully to the herd as well. He began to cross the river, slipping a bit from the current, but refusing to get out and try again. After a bit of stumbling and a great deal of grumbling, the male finally made it to the other side... Only to not see the herd. He was, from what he could tell, completely alone.

Sides heaving, the male trotted a bit away from the river. He looked around, ears back... Only to see a massive grouping of horses in the distance. Ears perking, the male immediately was relieved; he didn't know of any other herd that was so damn huge, and so assumed it had to be Dargason's ((which it is, by the way; just in case anyone's confused)). The male let out a loud knicker, then began to canter toward the herd, ignoring the fact that his muscles were quite aggravated with him at that point. Once he got back to the herd, he could worry about collapsing.

~~~
Elamasi wasn't having half the good luck that Ameqoi had, not that she ever did. The mare was finding herself much closer to the flames than was comfortable; she knew for a fact that the herd had been much farther way from the fire than this, and it made her wonder if she was really following the right herd after all. The hoofbeats she seemed to hear were coming from across the fire, which didn't make sense; no horse herd was going to walk straight into the flames. The female was starting to think she had gotten terribly disorientated.
Galloping along with confusion, Elamasi finally seemed to get somewhere; to the river. This was encouraging, as Dargason and his herd had surely crossed it. However, this also provided a huge problem. Elamasi may be spunky and intelligent, but she was one of the smallest, if not THE smallest mare in the herd. Perhaps when surrounded by a ton of horses, she could cross the river, but on her own? The chances didn't seem very likely. The current was very strong, much too powerful for a small, exhausted mare like herself.
However, there wasn't much else to do. She couldn't jump over the waters; the river was too large, and she wasn't a good jumper anyway. She couldn't just sit back on that side of the river either; the flames could still get to her. Nope, she only had one choice, and that was to try and make it through the river. Thus, taking a deep breath, the mare stepped into the waters, and soon found herself fighting as hard as she could to get to the other side and not be swept away by the current.
<Elsewhere, further from Gallop Free and within the reaches of man, a great herd of feral mustang mares grazed on the rolling expanses of prarie. They were ever-wary of the cattle drivers and farm hands who might wish to capture them, but aside from the stress of their closeness to man, life had been pretty good. There was plenty to eat, little competition from other grazing animals, and of course, plenty of companionsship within their own fairly large group.
There was, however, just one little problem. Not a single mare in the group had produced a foal in ages, likely because of their recently expelled, good-for-nothing stallion, who was apparently sterile. They'd driven him off, not about to live under the rule of a stallion who couldn't do his one important task, but that left the group with a problem: they now had no leadership from a lead stallion, and even lesser chances of reproduction.>
"This sucks."
<Said Alleb, inbetween mothfuls of admittedly rather dry and tasteless prarie grass.>
"Just in case no one noticed."
<She added, the comment clearly sarcastic. Young and in her prime, the gorgeous black mare was impatient to have foals, wanting to experience a true herd, not a group of moody females constantly on the run from cowboys and other human threats.>
"Thanks for clearing that up, Alleb."
<Said Uchefuna with obvious exasperation. While she, too, was rather displeased about the herd's situation, which was a far cry from "improving," she felt no need to dwell on it. Older and more mature, she'd foaled before and, despite her instincts, was also not overly eager to do it again, at least not until they truly found a worthy stallion. Unlike some of the younger mares who wanted "a" foal, she wanted a "quality" foal, something which came with aging and having fewer opprotunities every day to produce healthy, viable offspring.>
<Valkyrie was no where near the two disgruntled, bickering mares. In fact, she wasn't very close to the herd at all, lingering at the outskirts in peaceful solitude. What started as shyness, fear of other horses, had developed into a more habitual isolaiton over time. She had lost her fear of horses after years in the herd of mares, aging gracefully and never producing a single foal with the stallion she had avoided anyways. Old habits merely died hard, so she listened from a respectful distance, tail flicking away horseflies and ears turning to and fro to the sounds of the the prarie.
Then, an eerily familiar smell reached her nose. It was faint, distant, practically non-existant, but it was distinct. Dargason, the stallion whose herd she had left so many years ago in search of a place where she could be happier. He had been a very good stallion: caring, protective, and responsible. However, his herd had been too large for her comfort, and worse yet, had numerous stallions, a gender she was not nearly comfortable with.
For now, she kept silent. Dargason was, after all, probably still living in nearby Gallop Free, and on these hot dry days, smells seemed to carry for miles. Even if he was closer than usual, it seemed unlikely that the stallion would be on a mission to seek out mares, havingmore than enough himself, especially for his age.>
((I'll worry about Elamasi and Ameqoi once everyone who is a part of this herd posts))
Chema was feeling a little grumpy that day. Of course, she obviously wasn't the only one judging by the bickering of her two nearby companions, but Chema was normally not a moody mare. The aging mare was normally very calm and collected, and dealt with things with an open mind. However, big changes had come along. And while she had, at the beginning, though it had been a good idea, nothing brilliant was coming from their decision. Things weren't getting worse, unless you counted everyone's moods... But things were hardly getting better either.
Now, Chema hadn't been exactly crazy over Nondáire. What mare would like a sterile, shy male who could hardly protect them. Basically none would, and the older female was no exception. After much thought, she had fully supported kicking him out of the group, since he brought nothing to the herd. No foals, no good socialibility, and hardly any protection... Seemed pretty useless to her. And thus she was perfectly glad to see him go, thinking that they would quickly get another lead stallion, and everything would be happy ever after.
The mustangs were still without a stallion, though. There was no leadership, no chances of reproduction, and no good coming whatsoever. It was making the mare perfectly miserable. Had she known that they would be without a stallion for what seemed like so long, she would have opted to let Nondáire stay, if only so they had someone to protect them -- Abide a very weak and shy "someone". But she had gotten caught up in the frustration of the other mares, and, it seemed, was being punished for it.
She sighed, shaking her head as she limped her way toward what she hoped would be better grasses. She lowered her head and began to graze, only to find that this path was the same as every other -- dry and disgusting. Forcing herself to deal with it, the mare listened quietly as two of the younger mares bickered with each other. Yep, arguing sure did help the situation. She sighed, shook her head, then focused completely on the grasses below her -- Though that wasn't any better than the arguing mares, really.
Zakiah was in a much different state than her mother. The brown-speckled female was actually in a good mood, perhaps a better one than everyone else. She, like Valkyrie, was grazing away from the herd, to the point of where one probably wouldn't think she was part of the herd at all. She didn't care at all that they had no lead stallion, as she didn't see the point of one. So they couldn't reproduce; big deal, who cares? Zakiah sure didn't; she didn't want to worry about caring for some foal. In fact, Nondáire's lack of ability to reproduce had not been the reason she was so eager to drive him off.
It was the fact that he was a shy and weak stallion that made her join her other mares in chasing him away. He was no use to any of them if he could barely even defend himself, let alone anyone else. Besides, stallions were useless anyway; there was no reason to keep him around. And so the mare was quite content with the situation, and would continue to be so if her mother and some other mares weren't so grumpy about the situation. Honestly, she wished they would shut up; they were the ones who drove Nondáire off, and thus they only had themselves to blame for a lack of a stallion.
Ooc: Now posting in guest mode, ehem. Thank goodness for the 'delete' button. Anywho, playing around with my RPing format.
~:Hypatia-Simone was delighted by the current situation, every nerve vibrating with joy. The mares were bickering, Lyzevel was deeply depressed, and all seemed right with the world. Never before had she been in a situation so filled with pure and utterly emotionally destructive good. She was in such a good mood, in fact, that she stood near Lyzevel, her voice a murmur as she informed the other mare of her exact worth: nothing. The game now bored her, however, as Lyzevel started to ignore her liver chestnut companion. The buckskin actually started grazing, ears now half-perked where once they plastered flat against the mare’s head. Her neck still drooped, but that could be attributed to the fact that grass grew rather low, and one had to lower your head to get to it.
“Y’know, fire isn’t an animal.”
:That caught the constantly depressed mare’s attention. Lyzevel rose her head to neck level (it rarely went above that, it seemed) and regarded her companion with tired, baffled eyes.
“Yes, well that’s just obvious.” Her voice was soft, meek.
“Fire eats and breeds-“
“It burns and spreads. I thought you said-“
“Yesyes, let me get to the point.” Hypatia-Simone’s ears flattened, causing Lyzevel’s head to go down and her posture to turn more submissive than usual. The liver chestnut snorted in satisfaction and continued. “You see, fire isn’t an animal because it doesn’t have the sense to stop and rest before it kills all- it doesn’t even eat most of what it attacks, just wounds it.”
“Your anthromorphizing a force of nature.” Lyzevel’s very, very small voice interjected.
“No, I’m deanthromorphizing it.”
“Oh.” Lyzevel had the feeling that Hypatia-Simone was rather insane, but didn’t feel like saying anything. The mare’s rambling, disjointed ‘philosophy’ was far better than her fun, after all.
“You’re a fool.”
“Oh.” Lyzevel knew the break couldn’t last for long, wondered what had triggered it.
“You didn’t join the herd in driving off the useless stallion.”
:They had gone over this a million times, Lyzevel was sure. “It has brought only agony and suffering to us, without leadership or a stallion, as it is. Unnatural.”
“So?” Hypatia-Simone seemed honestly puzzled.
“Well, agony, suffering, unnaturality. They’re bad.”
:Hypatia-Simone favored the buckskin mare with a long, seemingly worried look. If Lyzevel didn’t know better, she would say the other mare thought her mad, or sick. Rather sure that it wasn’t her with the problem, Lyzevel nevertheless returned to grazing. After all, if she had her head held low, she might as well use it for something. It rather surprised her when Hypatia-Simone simply walked away.:~
~:Meanwhile, Muirgheal listened to the younger mare’s bickering as she grazed, surprisingly placid, within the nuclei of the herd. Although she rather agreed that life wasn’t at its best, they were the cause of it. Although generally quite the hot-headed female, the grullo mare stayed stoic when it came to placing blame. As far as she was concerned, the listed grievances didn’t hold water: so, they didn’t have leadership. They weren’t a bunch of idiots (well, other than Hypatia-Simone, Lyzevel, and Zakiah; even they were more bonkers than stupid) and could lead themselves. No foals? It wasn’t like Nodaire could do anything about that. Protection? None of them had young, none of them were old or weak or injured. They could each, individually, fend rather well for themselves. Put together they did fine against danger.
:Thus, Muirgheal thought the other mares rather silly, and drew quite a bit of annoyance from this.:~
~:Muirgheal’s daughter, Ragnheidur, shifted, striped legs moving her sturdy golden body forward a few steps as long black strands of mane whipped in the wind (upon which faint traces of horse and ash could be faintly scented, if one tried to catch them, all marred by the scent of the mares). She would have joined in the griping, interjecting comments with her calm, level voice, had she not been so focused on getting something to eat. The current grass just left something to be asked for.:~
((I think SDW was in on this too, but she hasn't been on much lately, so hopefully she doesn't mind if we proceed))
<Imageargason was becoming increasingly irritable and worried, but knew he had to calm down and keep his cool. He didn't need his herd thinking he was a weak leader, seeing as most previous experiences amongst the herd had been serene, and thus, his role as leader never put to the challenge. Perhaps had the missing mare been one of the less favored, he wouldn't even be reacting like this; though he respected and care for his entire harem, those which were more dominant, spirited, and or better at producing offspring simply meant more to him. Fhera and Yarrabe had proven utterly worthless in producing offspring, for example, and he almost found himself wishing it was them who had vanished, not Elamsi.
Collecting his thoughts, seeing the herd looking to him for guidence after the terror of the fire and the current drama of missing herdmates, the stallion purposefully sniffed the air, upper lip flipping back to help trap scents. To his relief, he could detect both Amequoi and Elamsi's scents, and none of massive burning carcasses. This suggested that they had at least made it out of the fire alive. Now there was just that trivial little matter of finding them>
"They can't be far; I can smell them even over the fire. We shall have to follow their scents and bring them back, that is all."
<He spoke with confidence, wanting the herd to be reassured that the two had merely strayed, and not been "lost" by some lapse of responsibility on his part. Most seemed to buy it, pleased that he'd caught the scents of the missing members and allready seemed to have a plan building in his mind. Then, to improve the situation, Bobruna suddely broke away from the herd at an energized canter, ears perked>
"Amequoi!"
<she yelled cheerfully, seeing her favored stallion in the distance. She had been concerned that, being something of a silly and sluggish male, he might have been left behind in the fire. Indeed, if anyone was a skeptic of Dargason's words, it had been her, but now that she dimly saw his form through the billowing smoke, she was pleased to find that he was right.>
Ameqoi still was too far away to make out any of the horses, but he wasn't far away enough not to hear. Hence, he was immensely relieved when he heard his name being called. Granted, he just barely heard the voice, but at least he recognized it... Bobruna. So apparently that was Dargason's herd; that, or Bobruna had, within the course of a few minutes, left Dargason's herd and joined another one that was just as big. Considering that seemed completely impossible, the stallion decided that he simply had to be heading toward the right herd, and that for once, he hadn't gotten completely and utterly lost.
The stallion let out a loud neigh, hoping the herd would hear and thus they would all know that he was all right. He was already going as fast as his muscles would permit, and honestly it didn't seem like he was going to get anywhere anytime soon. So he just hoped that at hearing his loud vocalization they would know he was okay, and not worry as much about him -- If they were even worrying at all, anyway. He did have the ability to take care of himself, so there wasn't that much reason to worry about him... Well, if you ignored the fact that he was prone to getting lost or getting distracted by food, anyway.
~~~

Meanwhile, Elamasi was not having a good day. While she had yet to completely kill herself yet, she wasn't exactly getting across the river either. In fact, she felt like she had made no progress whatsoever. The mare had already stumbled and given herself a very sore, though thankfully not broken, leg, and things were hardly improving. She had a funny feeling that the current was pulling her along with it, despite all the fighting and attempts at crossing she was doing. Simply enough, the small female stood little chance against a raging river.

Still, it wasn't all that bad, the female supposed as she continued to fight to get to the other side. After all, the flames couldn't get to her if she was stuck in the middle of a raging river. That, and she was keeping her footing pretty well, with only a sore leg to remind her of the danger; had her luck been slightly meaner, she could've fallen and killed herself by now. Finally, she was making progress, abide in the slowest way possible. All she had to do was tell herself she would make it, and concentrate on not dying.

Overall, it kept the female very busy, and she really wasn't paying attention at all to exactly where she was going. Her only concern was getting to the other side.

<Once it was confirmed that the approaching stallion was Amequoi, Bobruna broke away from the main herd. He was not in any rush to approach them, exhausted from the long and smokey walk and the strenuous swim, but she was not (perhaps because she spent a little less time grazing and a bit more running than he). Galloping his way, pleased that her favored stallion within the herd had found his way back to the main group, the mare approached at a brisk pace despite Dargason's disgrunted warning whinnies to stay with the group.
Perhaps Bobruna was underestimating Amequoi for having been so concerned, but she had just experienced first hand the fear and confusion of the fire, and knew that even the most astute of horses could lose direction and be injured. Look at Tangaloor, one of the herd's lead mares, for example; she had been burned simply because she turned around in the wrong direction in the thick smoke and panicked exit of the herd. It seemed that if a typically level headed mare could manage to get wounded, a stallion prone to straying could easily end up on the business end of the blaze rather than safely with his herd.
Finally reaching the male, Bobruna knicked cheerfully and brushed muzzles with the male, then fell into pace beside him, keeping at a similar slow pace so he wouldn't get lost once more as the smoke billowed across the Great River, shrouding even these comparatively safe grasses with a dense fog.>
"Nice of you to join us,"
<She said teasingly, nudging him in the flank with a wink>

((Ok... bad post. I don't have much to say in this thread until the mares meet Elamsi and the herd meets the mares))

Ameqoi was a bit surprised when one of the mares broke away from the herd to approach him. He figured that Dargason would want to keep everyone together, considering the dangerous situation, the stress, and the possibilty of missing members like himself. He also assumed that most of the mares would not want to wander away in these kinds of conditions. Of course, once he noticed it was Bobruna, he stopped being confused. Not that Bobruna was rebellious or anything; on the other hand, he was touched that she cared enough to come out and meet him. Apparently Ameqoi should be renamed Sir Clueless ((and make a gang/club with Rizwan, but ANYWAY)).

When Bobruna came close enough he smiled, brushing muzzles with her, then was immensely relieved when she slowed down. He was afraid he may have to keep up. At her comment, he chuckled, shaking his head.

"I figured you would appreciate it."

He spoke in a joking tone.

~~~
Elamasi, meanwhile, was having a moment of both glory and confusion. She had managed to get out of the river without killing herself. However, she had also managed to end up considerably far from Gallop Free. The smoke had not yet travelled well to where she was, and was only a slight haze in the air. She could barely even see the flames in the distance. And she most certainly could not see Dargason's herd anywhere at all. It caused the soaking-wet mare to sit around confused for a few moments, trying to decide what to do.
Then she noticed something in the distance, though she couldn't tell what it was. Curious, the mare began a slow, tired trot closer, scenting the air. To her surprise, she caught the scent of horses, but it was not insanely far away like Dargason's herd should be. On the other hand, it was very close. Granted, she didn't recognize any of the smells, and it was the wrong direction, but still... It was something. So Elamasi began to approach the distant herd, willing her tired legs to go just a bit farther.
((Sure ^^ I actually said in my first post that you were welcome to come since you're in the plot. Though, the herd allready crossed the river safely. Did Trance not? If not, I'll send Loki across to go get her.))
<Imageargason realized, as Bobruna darted off after Amequoi, that yet another herdmate was missing. The numbers hadn't seemed quite right, but he couldn't think of the second missing mare, for she had joined the group fairly recently. After re-examining the present mares, the stallion finally realized who it was: Trance, the wounded mare who had become a member of their group in recent weeks. He instantly was horrified of the possibilities, her injuries probably debilitating her somewhat. If the healthy herd had found the smoke confusing and the current trying, it seemed terrifyingly possible that something had happened to the mare.
Just as he was about to leave Cy and Loki in charge and go seek out the fae, he heard a faint voice calling out to him. It was Trance. Because of the thick smoke billowing across the river to where they stood, he could not tell if she was with them, or across the divide. Either way, she was not with the group, which was concern enough. Whinnying loudly, he called out to the female, hoping to discern her location so the herd might help her>
"Trance! Where are you? Have you crossed the river yet?"
<Bobruna grinned slightly at Ameqoi's comment, walking along slowly at his side. Then it occured to her that in her haste to greet him, she'd completely forgotten about the other missing herdmates. Ameqoi didn't mention anything about Elamsi being missing or left behind, but then again, it was entirely possible that for once, they hadn't been travelling together. In that case, he probably didn't know his long-time friend was missing either, something which might explain why he hadn't mentioned anything.
Hating to be the one to break the news, Bobruna allowed herself to be momentarily distracted by Dargason calling out for Trance, who apparently had also become separated. Considering the size of the herd, she thought Dargason had handled the whole situation reasonably well, but she was a little dissapointed that he hadn't noticed the second missing mare right off the rank. It was probably because the wounded female was of low rank, and Dargason happened to favor Elamsi. Speaking of which...>
"So... Ameqoi... you didn't happen to see Elamsi... did you?"
<Uchefuna raised her head at the sound of distant hooves on the soil. Inhaling deeply, she managed to catch the scent of a new mare, as well as the distant scent of smoke and fire. To the latter, she rolled her eyes, wondering what the humans had set on fire now. Living in close proximity to ranching land, it seemed there was always some damned cowboy leaving a fire unattended or a cigarette on the ground. She was certain that, even if as far away as this smelled, the fire had to have been caused by man.
Enought biterness, however. The mare had definately detected an unfamiliar mare's scent, and more importantly, a smell that was mingled with other horses - a herd - including a stallion. This peaked her interest, for to the best of her knowledge, the herd she belonged to was one of the only ones in the area, and there were little or no wild stallions any more as they were constantly captured for rodeos and captive breeding.>
"Do you smell that?"
<She asked of no one in particular. When no one in particular answered, she turned and bit Alleb in the flank>
"Hey, Alleb, you're very alert to things like how much everything sucks. In your vast sensory capacities, did you happen to notice any interesting smells?"
<The black mare turned and scowled, grass hanging sloppily from her mouth, and bucked at the the other mustang, agitated that she was being bothered. However, she finally sniffed the air out of curiosity, her eyes widening>
"Oh! There's a fire somewhere."
<She paused>
"It's pretty far off though. We care about this why?"
((Anyone else can feel free to answer Alleb, since she's being a bitch and it's a nice opprotunity to feel superior to her.))
::She had heard her name and some words she whinnied loudly she hadn't crossed the river she thought the current was to rough for she was still weak and un-stable she ran to the side of the river she was on and looked across to the other horses::
"I'm still over here!"
::She had a sense of desperateness in her voice, her eyes were still wide from fear and stress, she had some sweat running down her pelt as well, her worse fear was being alone again::
~:Hypatia-Simone grinned impishly as she trotted up beside Alleb, nipping at the air near the other horse’s shoulder. ”We care because there’s another horse coming this way, and there’s a herd someway off.” The liver chestnut grinned, obviously quite pleased with the prospect of a new ‘friend’ as well as the thought of a whole new herd to ‘get to know’ and ‘share her philosophy with’. The mare pranced towards the direction of the fire, sniffing at the air, ears perked- horse and burnt things commingling in a cacophony of scent. To Hypatia-Simone, it was words of interest that laced with promises of new things to see, new people to talk to- she was becoming bored with this herd of mares, with no stallion to annoy.:
Lyzevel slowly made her way over to where Uchefuna and Alleb stood, watching with a cocked brow as Hypatia-Simone pranced several more feet away. ”Well... that is a bit interesting.” Bland words, although it was obvious by the way the buckskin watched her ‘friend’s movement in such an intent way that she was quite interested in the proceedings, and as to where this mare and the herd were. The mare was rather sure that this presented a chance to get away from the spirit-killing torments of Hypatia-Simone- she would simply choose whatever directional option did not include her being by the other mare. Easy, and satisfying:
:Muirgheal and Ragnheidur both glanced up from their grazing, towards the direction that Hypatia-Simone was still moving towards. Both mares had the feeling that whoever was approaching would not want to meet the crazy female, first, yet neither really wanted to do anything about it.
”Perhaps we should send someone out- other than Hypatia-Simone- to meet the mare? She might be injured.” Voice calm and level, Ragnheidur glanced between the other mares, eyebrow cocked, before returning to her grazing in a clear indication that she wasn’t going to be the one greeting the other animal.:~
Ooc: Wooh bad post. Wasn't sure how close Elamasi was to the herd, which is why I switched PoV- I assume Hypatia-Simone will be able to see her soon...?
